Native American Heritage Month was made to recognize the contributions of the first Native Americans. The official designation of November as National Native American Heritage Month was signed into law in 1990. It was made to call attention to Native American culture by prioritizing traditions and achievements of the nation’s original inhabitants and their descendants. During Native American Heritage Month, we recognize the invaluable contributions of the Native peoples that have shaped our country and honor hundreds of tribal Nations.
