The MPHS Student Section at football games is always full of fun and laughter. All MPHS students in grades 9-12 can be a part of the student section but remember, seniors are in the front!
The student section is in the perfect spot, right by the band and the cheerleaders, ensuring as much energy and school spirit as possible, but there is one problem. There’s a tradition at MPHS for the seniors to sit on the railings by the track. This is very fun but, it creates an accessibility issue. Having students sitting on railings and blocking the paths makes it difficult for people with disabilities to get past. Ms. Willey, the assistant principal at MPHS says “We want to work with our students, our facilities crew, and community members and try to get their involvement too, because we want to make sure everybody’s voices are heard.” Ms. Willey has planned to create a new railing for students to sit on, making the walkway clearer. Willey also says that even if students simply are more aware and can clear a path, that could help the issue as well.
The student section is full of 9th-12th graders from MPHS. There is seating behind them but, sitting behind the student section may cause you some problems. At games, we sometimes have blow-up items that might come to the back of the section and interfere with the people behind them. You can interact with the students but, be aware of how much is happening when in the student section.
The student section has lots of laughing, talking, and cheering. Being in the student section makes students feel school spirit and makes them more energetic. The cheerleaders do cheers that interact with the students in the student section to make them more involved and participate in the festivities of the football games.
The student section has many themes stretching from beach out to blue and gold making the section colorful and fun.
In all, the student section is full of school spirit and fun activities that all high
school students can participate in. Come to the student section and have fun!
