Every year for homecoming, each grade gets a student showcase! Every class, from freshman to senior, all get their own respective showcases. The student showcases are usually different from each other, but they all have an underlying theme that connects them. This year, the main theme of the showcases are popular movies, which each movie was chosen by drawing different popular movies out of a bowl.
For the 2028 showcases, Grace Bartell is one of the showcase leaders. The theme for their showcase and their class theme overall was Cars. Unfortunately I was unable to get an interview, but I was able to get a couple statements. When asked about difficulties on making the showcases she said that she had no real problems working with the showcase, and the only trouble they had was plugging in the lights.
The sophomore year showcase are led by Carter Rupe, Van Brakenbury, William Wang, and Landon King. Their showcase’s theme this year was the Lion king, and they were up to the task to build the showcase. I interviewed Carter for his thoughts and opinions on working on the showcase. “I wanted to work on the showcase, because it felt like last year I should’ve included myself more.” He said, when asked why he decided to lead the showcase. “It’s all about the culmination of ideas; all of it coming together to make the showcase.” Carter added he would “100% be doing it next year, it was a really fun experience.”, Which would be a call to all of you who would like to lead your class showcase.
For the Juniors Showcase, and the overall class theme was Moana. Unfortunately, one of the showcase leaders, Madelyn Andraka, was unable to be interviewed, due to being sick. The actual showcase (Top Left) depicts the Oilers as a wave going over the team we will play at Homecoming, Bay City Western.
And finally, Jolie Damer-Daigle is one of the leaders for the Senior showcase, whose theme is Monsters Inc. “It sounded better than doing mock rock, and I really liked art,” stated Jolie, when asked why she decided to join. She said her favorite part of the showcase (Top Right) was making the scream canisters, and that overall the showcase went smooth, besides some hiccups with the doors.
Overall, the showcases were great this year, and its’ a great thing that the student body was able to get together and create them. It’s just one of the few things our school does for homecoming that makes the MPHS ecosystem even better. Go Oilers!
