Every year Mount Pleasant High School has a fall play and a spring musical. These productions bring students across grade levels together to bring these shows to life. This year’s fall play is Emily Brontë the Teenage Necromancer! This entrancing production that is based in New England circa 1835 is about a terrifying phantom that has appeared at the Roe Head School for Girls, terrorizing its students and driving the school to near extinction. With enticing characters such as Emily and her sisters, Anne and Charlotte, who try and save the school from outrageous personalities such as a love-struck ghost, a talking meat pudding, and an undead goose this is a must-see show.
This captivating production of Emily Brontё Teenage Necromancer is co-directed by Ms. Emily Schwemer along with Mrs. Wendy Hoyle and is a one-of-a-kind story that is sure to entertain. When asked how the play was chosen, Ms. Schwemer said, “randomly, she picked it because it had the perfect mixture of funny and gave a great message.” After speaking with Ms. Schwemer the process of choosing the show is a very complex process that involves many elements such as the actors themselves, licensing, the theme, and visions.
Following a conversation with cast members it’s clear that the choice in fall drama is a winning choice which is

evident through the work and attitude of those involved in the production. Sophomore Regan Marshall who plays Charlotte Brontё, Emily’s sister, says a favorite moment during rehearsal was “When Kristin Hardy, who plays Roe Head/ John Pierce, crawled across the stage.” This is one of a variety of favorite moments from the cast. Not only does the fall play allow students to bring this show to life but it creates so many good memories and new friendships. Among some of the fun moments, it must be mentioned there will be talking meat pudding, played by Jaybee Bunting. He also plays additional roles in this production such as Seamus and Mr. Jacoby. Jaybee has had secondary roles in productions before but this is his first on-stage experience. There is a lot to unwrap in this production of Emily Brontё Teenage Necromancer, and to give each role the attention it deserves the cast and crew of this thrilling production have put in countless hours of rehearsal to bring this mythical story to life for all to enjoy.
