Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. day is honored every year in the United States on the third Monday in January. Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent figure in the Civil Rights movement, which worked to achieve equal rights for Black Americans. King’s courage to end discrimination resulted in him being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

King is best known for his “I Have a Dream” speech that he gave during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, on August 28, 1963. His stand on racial segregation and employment discrimination will never be forgotten. He is a role model to many because of his bravery, strength, and wisdom, which has made a large impact on all mankind.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated today in many ways. Some schools, government agencies, businesses, and banks are closed in observance of the national holiday. Speeches are given by many politicians and Civil Rights leaders in remembrance of King. Marches and parades are also organized in order to reflect on King’s impact.

There are many different ways for individuals to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. One way to recognize King’s efforts is by reading books and watching videos about his influence. Another way to reflect on King’s impact is by volunteering and participating in community events.
