Banned Books Week

This week is Banned Books Week!

Banned Books Week begins October 1st and goes through October 7th.  Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom we have to read what we want when we want. Books that are on the banned books list have all been either banned or challenged for various reasons. Books can be challenged or added to this list if they are considered inappropriate for certain age groups, if they contain offensive material and language, or if they contain explicit material and content. Some books that are banned include To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, 1984 by George Orwell, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and The Color Purple by Alice Walker.
